Hate to hear all that Viv. What type of health problems are you working on? When you mentioned not feeling 100% it struck a chord with me.
I've been working on something as of yet undiagnosed. Essentially, when I eat a lot of fast food (burgers, fries, Cokes, ice cream) too many meals in a row I've started getting real bad stomach aches. Sometimes I'd be sick to my stomach, sometimes I'd just spend the day running back and forth to the toilet.
Oct 11th after a fairly benign weekend of eating I started getting a weird full feeling beneath my ribs. It's still there now. For the past 3 Thursdays I've had various medical procedures to figure this out. First was blood work, which came back perfectly fine, nothing abnormal. They sent me to get an ultrasound and it too came back normal. So yesterday at 32 years old I got to experience my first colonoscopy! Joy. Guess what? FOUND NOTHING. Now I get to have a CT scan Monday and an endoscopy Tuesday. All of these are preceded by special diets and fasting.
I'm sick of being sick! I just want to be 100% and know what's wrong with me so I can fix it......

But yea they did a full blood workup -- normal CT - Scan - normal. Eventually they seemed to just kind of give up and put me on a super high dosage of antibiotics...which sort of helped a lot...though i would have prefered an explination as to what exaxctly went wrong... then came the colonoscopy...the prep was just disgusting...clear liquid diet followed by waking up at 6 am to drink the last 1/4th of that gross stuff followed by not being able to eat or even drink anything really took the cake.... all of that and again pretty much came back normal. so im sort of in this limbo state too. at least the antibiotics had some effect but im still far from 100%...well i guess its off to some other specialist next...

I go in tomorrow for the CT and gastro biopsy results. I'm feeling better than I have in a long while but I'm still a far way from being normal. It's pretty annoying, especially when traveling like I was this last weekend. Heading home to see the parents and not being able to really enjoy all the food sure does suck the fun out of the visit. I better be back on track by Thanksgiving!!

So cheesed off with politics right. The UK is supposed to be democratic but at the last election one party got 25% of the votes but not even 10% of the seats in government. At the electionbefore that the winning party had 60% of the seats but only 39% of the votes.
So now there's a referendum on switching to a more democratic form of democracy. And it looks like the referendum is going to fail to change anything. That in itself is irritating, but what's really ticking me off is the fact that the arguments the No campaign have been pushing are misleading scaremongering (illogical appeals to popularity, claiming extremist parties would do better, which they wouldn't, and in some cases flat-out lying). It's just so sickening that in a so-called democracy, politics is more about advertising than logic, reason and actual politics.
Sorry for resurrecting this thread, but I am decidedly cheesed off by this. AARGH.

Glad y'all brought this back, I should update my health issues above. Turns out I'm allergic to a TON of things including pretty much all seafood, most tree nuts, chicken, wheat and yeast. As you'll notice there's not a lot left. I'm eating only my "safe" foods and feeling better, but there is so little I can eat! No bread, pretty much just rice cakes and corn tortillas. Peanuts are oddly enough good so I'm pretty much living off peanut butter, ham, beef, and vegetables.
Almost all the fun of eating is gone (SO little fast food joints or restaurants have gluten free food) but at least the mysterious stomach issues have stopped.

that is a real drag.
So pretty much gluten free, ah? That has to be a pain in the butt.

It kinda is Trevor, it really drains the fun from things like birthday parties or spontaneous events. I have to plan ahead and usually pack my own food knowing most of what's around isn't good for me. It's good to be healthy though, at the end of those tests I was sure they were going to find a tumor or something weird but fortunately it's something I can address, regardless of how annoying it is.

man, i was not aware of the problems for people that deal with the gluten issue. I cant say i know how you feel, cause i have not been through it. But i do have respect for you for what your challenges are.
All i deal with is mental issues, like the most over diagnose ADHD (but in this case, i really do have ADHD) and then the Bipolar/Depression. Its a nuisance when both happen together at times.
Is there like cook books that deal with less to no gluten?

Yeah there are plenty of places now really paying attention to allergens thanks to recent FDA ruling. When you look at ingredients on most foods they BOLD type the ones known to cause allergies, and gluten is listed as wheat. They're everywhere though, like anything deep fried is usually gluten. The worse part though is I'm allergic to what people eat instead of gluten, like almonds or other nuts sometimes used in gluten free flour.
It's a learning process man, I'd talk your ear off about this but essentially it's learning to be VERY observant all the time.

interesting....so you just developed this allergy?? As i mentioned i too am experiencing some health issues. Now i can add pulmonary exam and endoscopy to my list of tests. I guess the did find an infection in my small intestines and some gastritis in my stomach but i dont see how this would account for this annoying right side abdominal pain which i continue to feel which seems to be getting worse. Been tested for glutton intolerance as well as they thought that might be the answer but nope...its been a real struggle. there was a cancer scare...the scans came back negative though...obviously i am more than thankful that it wasnt that but at the same time its like REALLY REALLY annoying to be constantly in pain and explaining it all and have them not be able to help me. Took some antibiotics for the intestine thing and that seemed to help but now im finished the course and its still hurting...my pulmonary specialist thinks i may have developed an allergy and now have some sort of asthma....doesnt seem likely to me...but it really sucks to be going for all these tests have be getting all these bills too. I have decent insurance so its not like they most of them are huge huge bills but with all this stuff going on its hard to keep track...i had a credit collection agency sicked on me for a bill of 16$!! WTF!! The lady called me and asked why i hadnt paid it and i told her 'because they didnt fix me!' then she asked me where i am from...LOL
but at this point my attitude is that hopefully since theyv run all these tests etc its not a huge awful thing and eventually they will fix it...who knows maybe its intestinal but i just need more medicine or something...

Yep just developed it after years of eating this. I used to eat ALL these foods all the time, but now it's a no-go. I went through endoscopy, colonoscopy, cat scan, ultra sound, and two separate rounds of blood work before getting some info. It took essentially all of October 2010 just doing tests every week, and yes the bills are annoying.
I'll tell you Vivace, I've never officially been diagnosed gluten sensitive or celiac. I tested positive for a wheat allergy and decided to cut it out on my own and see what happened. It took about 2 months to really stop eating it (it's in so much you'll accidentally eat it all the time at first) but the results are nice.
From what I've read, MANY doctors miss the diagnosis or discount it. It's possible yours have missed it but then again who knows. A friend of mine told me "only you know your body" and she was right on the money. I'd suggest you go gluten free for a bit and see if it helps. If not you can always go back. Remember though it'll take at least 2 months of eating gluten free before you should expect to see results.
I don't like taking any more meds than absolutely necessary. I now take fish oil and a pro-biotic (over the counter "good" bacteria to help digestion) and I feel 10x better than before. I was taking Metamucil for a while for extra fiber but it gave me real bad gas so I said forget this! :-D

Dear Lord, viv and James! That is just such craziness having to put up with not only using a hawk's eye watching your diet but the added pain of medical bills. And having them not know truly what the main issue is? In this day and age, you wonder. We have drugs for EVERYTHING but not for unidentified ailments they cannot diagnose. We all need to count our blessings. Take care everyone!!

Geez, Trevor! Sorry I missed your earlier post here.. Idk if i ever mentioned but I used to have similar issues in my 20s, Trev. The thing I never learned was mixing alcohol with the medications! Took anti-depressant and a thing for nerves as well. DO NOT RECOMMEND anyone drink while on ANY meds! I went off of those cold before i went to college. Just didn't feel right taking those since they had no effect in the long run. Drug industry relies on our dependencies. Yet, when there are no other options, I'd gladly get a prescription if i was in need undoubtedly. Am VEEERY jazzed to meetup with u in less than 3 weeks for Blackfield in Chitown. Gonna be sweeeeeet! Cheers and be well, compadre!! *hugs*

I deactivated my facebook account and will never use it again. Twitter is so much better. I think i am a failure. I don't trust any government on this planet and i am tired of it all, but i won't give up. I will strive until the day i'll leave this world.
