so far we have had quite a few: DT Redemption(Ray Alders sings) PT Riverside and of course OSI
i am probably missing a few too.
I have to conclude that Blood is hands down the best of them all so far. Hands down.

Hmm. To me, it's between PT and OSI. But I really don't know a lot about all the other prog bands that are out there. However, I'm not sure I even feel that OSI's Blood is that progressive sounding. Is it? Kevin and Jim and are big-time progressive metal figures, but the album itself doesn't feel too progressive to me. That's not bad or anything. I'm just sayin.

O yea i think Blood is pretty progressive. Time signatures, just the tone in general is pretty unique. If not prog then what would we call it?

I've never listened to transatlantic. in fact, i know nothing about them at all. I suppose Blood in progressive. i feel like OSI 1 was progressive, but the last two albums are not so much. But there are stll progressive elements since KMO and JM are prog guys. I would still vote for PT's The Incident.

I would go so far as to say Blood is easily the best prog album in the last 3 years. I used to digg porcupine tree in the in Absentia days but lately not so much. And even the older stuff i cant listen to much any more...think i just kind of had enough of the dark teenage depression/hopelessness/frustration with the world..

Transatlantic is su fucking cool!! amm... it's a supergroup conformed by: Mike Portnoy, Neal Morse, Roine Stolt and Pete Trewavas... they started to play in 2000 but in 2003 Morse decided to retire from the group to pursue his career as a Christian Musician, but this year they re-united and will release they third album this year... it contains a 77min single track...!
u should hear their first disc: "SMPT:e" it is just impressive! i love it!

I lost interest in Neal Morse after he left Spock's Beard, but the Transatlantic stuff was OK here and there. I liked Duel With the Devil and a few others a lot. But the extended drawn out epicness of practically every song got tiresome to listen to heheh. I'll listen to their new one, but I don't have great expectations.
On the note of best prog of the year and Blood, I'd say it is not only progressive but in a genre of its own. Blood is simply the best collection of songs I've heard in my lifetime thus far...

wow, thats big praise, communicant. the more i think about it, it is progressive. i guess i was just comparing it to OSI1 and DT-type progressive. I would have to pick Blood as the top album and PT is up there too! Deff not the DT album tho.

yea you know i think i would put Blood in my top 6 modern day prog albums along with Awake , I&W , Operation Mind Crime and Perfect Symmetry....well i guess its a little interesting that 5 out of 6 of these albums feature Moore but Perfect Symm was only on one track so its more like 4/6 but hey i guess thats why i am here... For this year my list is 1.Blood 2.Snowfall on Judgment day 3. PT 4. dark clouds and silver linings Not rating transatlantic or riverside I almost did not rate PT but i felt i should since i used to be a fan and i continue to buy their albums much like i do with DT. There are some other mentionable albums like the Steve Wilson solo album and the Ryche album(awful) nut i think my list says enough. I am not totally in love with Snowfall either but prefer it to the others.

Wow, you rank Blood on your all-time list. That's a big compliment. The thing about Kevin's music is that I consistently love his music. Some things I might not love, but I never dislike his music. There's always something great about each song and album. Unlike other bands I've liked, he never lets me down. I always like his work. There is never a clunker. Meanwhile, DT and Queensryche (my two other fav prog bands) do disappoint here and there. Kmo never does.

PT - The Incident. DT - BC & SL and Redemptions SOJD were both really really booring.
I dont know (like Merbert) if OSI is "progressive," but Blood isnt boring (well, i guess if you listen to it all day long).
Another album which i really like, and i guess have som prog-early-floydish moments to it, is The Church - Untitled 23.

When I first got Blood, I listened to it non-stop. I actually listen to my mp3 player at work, and I had the album on repeat for a couple weeks (about 80 hours of Blood). Still haven't gotten bored of any of the tracks =) The songs are so uniquely crafted. The lyrics aren't cut and dry, like so much other music these days. Overall, the music just portrays my current situation better than I can.

It definitely goes to "The Whirlwind" by Transatlantic... it's just superb from the beginning until the end... i couldn't ask more!
it's hard to admit but "Stockholm" did take points away to "Blood"... i tried to make that song grow on me... but never really did it...
