Transatlantic WHIRLD TOUR 2010! From Transatlantic
Transatlantic December 16 at 8:58am Report
Transatlantic flies again!
Transatlantic's "Whirld Tour" goes through 21 cities in USA and Europe in April/May 2010. This will be an evening with Transatlantic, a once in a lifetime liveshow, so don't miss out! Check out the Fan Page under Events for all the shows and more info!
so that's it... Transatlantic will be touring... hmm, now I'm wondering... Portnoy won't be touring with DT in that dates? or he just won't go on tour with Transatlantic?! Anyway, I bet it will be and incredible show... I hope I can go to one of their gigs... u.u
what do you guys think about this?

Actually, DT is not doing a 2010 tour. They announced that they are taking a brief break and not doing a second-leg of the tour. I think MP said that on his forum two weeks ago or so. Maybe ticket sales haven't been that good due to the economy?
I've never heard Transatlantic. What song should I check out?

This is what MP said in mid November:
As 2009 is finally winding down and no DT plans have been made public yet for 2010, I'd like to just give a quick rundown of what we have planned to prevent any rumors or speculation that I'm starting to see brew.... As you know, after Thanksgiving we will be heading down to New Zealand for the very first time and then over to Australia (with special guests Pain Of Salvation)...and then we will return home to our families for the holidays and New Year... In an unexpected move, we will then enter the studio right after New Year's to write and record a brand new instrumental track for inclusion on the upcoming Gods Of War 3 soundtrack. This will mark the first time in the band's career we have written and recorded an exclusive track for an outside project. Roadrunner invited us to participate and we decided we were up for the challenge! Next on the agenda will likely be a South American tour in the late winter / early spring...but we are still awaiting details on this, so of course plans are still subject to change... Speaking of changed plans, I'm afraid I have some disappointing news for our North American fans: after serious discussion within the band and evaluations with our manager and agent, we have deciding against doing another US run in spring as we had initially planned...for many reasons, it just is not going to work out as we had originally hoped. (and yes Texas, I still remember we owe ya next time!) Essentially, this means the BC&SL World Tour will conclude with South America (if it indeed happens) and the only remaining DT shows in 2010 will be some possible festivals and one-off shows that may (or may not) happen towards the end of the summer. So that's the 2010 forecast for DT.... The 2010 MP forecast is another story.... Although I do plan on having some down time to enjoy with my family....I do have several things on my agenda that will keep me plenty busy (of course!)... As most of you know, it's looking VERY likely that Transatlantic will hit the road with some shows in support of the newly released reunion album "The Whirlwind"....it looks like we found a nice little window in mine, Pete's, Neal's and Roine's schedules to make this happen in the Spring. So we are currently looking into doing some select shows in major cities on both sides of the Atlantic during this period (it will be our first truly "transatlantic" tour - as we only did the US for SMPTe in 2000 and only did Europe/UK for Bridge Across Forever in 2001) Details of these shows should start to firm up soon, so stay tuned... In addition to the Transatlantic tour, I also have several other exciting possibilities up my sleeve for 2010....so time will tell what pans out and become realities.... So there ya have it for now! Inevitably, some people will be disappointed in our plans and complain (and blame me!)...others will be excited and overjoyed (and thank me)...but it is what it is..,it's our lives and our career and this is how it looks to be shaping up for the coming months/year... OK, there ya go! You're now in the loop.... Thank you for a GREAT 2009 (so far) and looking forward to more in 2010, MP

check out these albums: SMPTe and The Whirlwind !
I actually would recommend Bridge Across Forever first, but I guess its all good . Its hard to really pick any one song, as most of them are super-duper long, but "We All Need Some Light" is a decent starting point:

Wow. Thanks, Zep. I just listened to the video. What a beautiful song. I am deff ordering a Transatlantic album tonight. Just gotta decide which one to get first. Maybe I'll listen to various songs on YouTube and see what grabs me most.

Shit, I literally cannot stop listening to "We All Need Some Light." That song blows me away. I'm hit and miss with some of their other stuff. Some amazes me, while other stuff has a distinct 70's sound to it that I'm not crazy about. I definitely like Neal Morse though. He has amazing stage presence and a real uplifting, clear powerful voice.

Neal is the man. Do you listen to old Spock's Bear at all? "Snow" is one of my favorite albums of all time.
He actually played a solo show at a small church out in Patchogue a couple of years ago that one of my friends set up. This is a vid I took of him doing a mix-up of "We All Need Some Light" and "Wind at My Back":

Never listened to spock's beard, but the last few days i've been checking out all of neal's stuff on youtube - from transatlantic to solo stuff to spock's beard. according to his website, he's overseas right now. i'd love to see a show like this. great video. nothing better than a small intimate show when it's an artist you like.
it was odd seeing nick d'virgilio sing in the more recent spock's beard videos on youtube. i know him from drumming for fate's warning and tears for fears. i really never got into spock's beard tho. he does have a nice voice. he's not a slouch by any means.

Nick's got a great voice. As far as Spock's Beard goes, I definitely prefer Neal-era stuff, as Neal is just a monster songwriter, but as far as vocals, I think Nick can definitely hold his own. He's got a solo album out that's pretty decent. Funny Nick story - During the summer 2003 Fates Warning / Queensryche / Dream Theater tour, NDV was doing the drumming for Fates, and I caught a bunch of shows on that tour, and at the Delaware show, during the Fates set, Portnoy came out and hopped on the drumkit, NDV grabbed the mic, and obviously Jim Matheos was on guitar, and they went into a cover of OSI's "shutDOWN" with NDV doing the vocals, but they only got like 20 seconds into the song, because it was an outdoor show and the weather suddenly turned terrible, and they had to stop the show because they were afraid the band was gonna get electrocuted . QR and DT eventually came back to play their sets after about an hours delay, but Fates never came back and they never got to finish the shutDOWN cover
