No thread already for this?
Ok, so I went to see Dream Theater in Stockholm last weekend. Haven't been that impressed or interested since Falling.. except for the odd tracks. Then I read the Lifting Shadows biography and all of a sudden I started getting a feel for the band again. Listened to the new album and really loved a few songs (The Looking Glass, Enigma Machine etc) so I decided to go to the show.
It was great to hear all the Awake tunes. Glad that James Labrie really do them justice. And Jordan is one hell of a player - usually I don't care that much for his sounds but he played the Awake tracks superbly and didn't "clutter" them with his light speed talent. (Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD do it.)
And so they played Space-Dye Vest, which I knew they were gonna do, and it was pretty alright I must say. It's one of the greatest songs in the history of songs and I'm glad it finally gets played. I prefer Kevin's vocals on it, but hey, I would prefer Kevin singing anything, but Labrie did a good job, as he did on the album. The ending of the song was extremely bombastic, and it didn't really have to be that, but it also fits this incarnation of the band so it made sense. All in all, I'm glad I got to hear it. For all I care I find DT playing the song 20 years later more natural than Kevin not playing it at all, or anything else for that matter. (Also, I think there are tons of CK songs that are superior to SDV).
Anyways. Did any of you guys see DT perform the track live? What did you think?

I got to hear them last week and I was blown away at the show (even though I don't like Rudess). It was a blast listening to Awake tunes. It was okay when they performed The Mirror + Lie then kick it off with Lifting Shadows Off A Dream (I really disliked Rudess' strings synth here, nowhere near what Kevin used to have). Scarred was beautifully executed and then they finished with S-DV. It was a heart breaking moment, for real. Something didn't feel right, specially with the changes (although they were slightly ones) they did to the song, Rudess tone was off and LaBrie's vocals were weird. I'm glad they played it tho as I'd never listen to that tune live otherwise, at least that's what I think.
Here's the footage I got:
