Hey, guys. I'm sure most of you know of Mark Zonder, the former drummer of Fates Warning and the drummer of Chroma Key's Dead Air for Radios CD. I think he's great. His playing is complex, yet controlled, and he has a tendency to strike in unpredictable moments while still fitting the context of the song. His playing on "Colorblind," "Even the Waves" and "Undertow" are perfect examples.
Anyway, he agreed to answer a few questions about his work on the DAFR album and CK cassette demo in the mid 1990s, as well as his work with Fates Warning and Slavior. Kevin did appear on several kick-ass FW albums with Mark. So if anyone has any questions, post them here and I'll look to include them. I told him I'll shoot over a list of questions later this week.

i agree, he is freakin awesome. a decent chunk of the questions will likely be about DAFR and the CK demo he played on since this is a Kmo website, but we should still obviously have a nice handful of FW, Slavior and general prog/drumming questions.

heres a some questions:
*: Has he heard osi Blood? if so what does he think? *: How did he get involved with DAFR (prolly though FW but...) ? Its a little different than most of his other material, how did he feel about playing it? What were the challenges? Did he have a favorite track? Does he still listen to it?
*:Would working with Moore be something he would like to do again?
*:Some of Moore's work sort of boarders on jazz in feel and perhaps instrumentally. Do you agree? I get the impression that a lot of prog musicians relish the chance to bust out their jazz chops for example Neal Peart's buddy rich project, Phil Collins's project..etc. Would you include yourself here? If so do you see these frequently common interests converging more and more?
*: I really consider Moores music to be very modern. Do you?

Great!!!!! Thanks Mebert!
questions! How was the atmosphere during the recording of DAFR? Was Kevin excited or worried about that? What did Kevin expect to achieve with DAFR?
Mebert, feel free to correct my questions if necessary, English is not my native language

Ok, cool! I'll try to include as many as possible. I'm excited to see what he says about DAFR. I really feel like he took very good DAFR songs and made them great with his drumming.

Like the rest of you I've loved all of MZ's work with Fates and Kevin. Looking forward to reading the interview. Don't have any questions but I'll try to think of some.

Well, just sent the questions to Mark. I gotta say, i'm really excited about this one. We got a nice balance of questions touching upon everything from Fates Warning to Dead Air For Radios to a bunch of other stuff. Can't wait to see what he says.
I think he is my favorite prog drummer. Instead of banging the hell out of the drums, he really crafts unique drum patterns and doesnt take the obvious downbeat. He is a smart drummer.

cool. Looking forward to this one. Yea he is definitely one of my faves when it comes to the prog scene.
I gotta say though--this Slaviour band he is in now--not really digging it AT ALL!!!

Well, Mark answered the questions and invited me to send more, so i did. lol. Just a few more. He gave some fascinating answers. One was about him and Kevin practicing with the lights off during the DAFR process. Like Gavin, he also said Kevin incredibly easy to work with without me even mentioning the interview where Mike Portnoy said Kev is stressful. I guess everyone is different. I'll post the Q&A later this weekend
