I've never been a huge fan of this song. I mean, it's OK. But definitely not in my upper-level of CK songs. So I was surprised when it did so well in the CK greatest song poll. What do you guys like about it? Personally, I think the lyrics are pretty creative. And I like the electronic piano solo at the end.
Let's discuss.

I think it has a beautiful melody and a great production with a lot of really cool sound effects. And the rhythm created by effetcs and percussions has a great drive to it. And I love the lyrics... But I prefer the Ghost Book version... It's just a great song packed with a lot of stuff...

yea its quite nice, really nails Kevin's melancholy sense of the mundane. In that way it reminds me of Looks Like Rain.
(Actually for fun right now i am playing both songs at once right now for some neat effects)

I don’t need Rolling Stone Magazine To Tell Me How Good Dream Theater’s “Pull Me Under” is. 🙂

tied for my favorite on the album with again today. the time from the start of sad sad movie and the end of again today brings me from a sad reminiscent state of love lost (love was in the sails...but i kept rowing). To an amazing happy feeling like i could conquer the world. It's unreal when music can touch many sides of the emotional spectrum. pure masterpiece!

Sad Sad Movie... Beautifully dark and heavy, lyrics telling about a lost love, something that was right in front of your eyes but the signs of which you always missed... So sad.... as the title suggests... It makes me think that he is visualising all that happened as if it was a movie and then recognizing that love was around him, close enough to touch but he kept walking past it, love remaining unnoticed. Have you never had your best friend in love with you? Not noticed the hopeful look but the penny dropped much later, when it was too late for you to do anything about it? This is what Sad Sad Movie reminds me of, I am not saying that that's what he's talking about, it is just how it applies to me...

This is one of my favorite KM songs, pretty much for the reasons ceren described. Just great lyrics describing someone remembering a lost romantic opportunity using a "sad movie" as a metaphor.

I feel like one of the sounds used in the song is like a movie reel spinning. Does it sound like that to you goes? I always thought that was a clever sound to use.
