I'm impressed and surprised at how well "Bigger Wave" is doing in the greatest-song tournament. I always thought it was a good song, but there are at least six songs on the Free album that I like better (Sure You Will, Free, Go, All Gone Now, Better and Our Town). Just wanted to get some insight as to why you guys like it so much? The music, the lyrics?
I've always had trouble figuring out what the song is about. I feel like it's someone preparing to go live on air. Or maybe it's someone rehearsing important lines to tell a loved one and Kevin is using the on-air thing as a way to describe what it feels like as the big moment approaches.

check out around 3:25 when that guitar lick kicks in. every_single_time i play it and it gets to that part i have to turn it up and just laugh in amazement. Just such a fabulous moment, the rythmic sort of primal riff of the guitar with the drums . But i love the entire song as well, the intro is so great the lyrics are great too.
the song seems to have 2 parts. The first when someone is prepairing to go live and getting into character with a name that he/she should try to keep the same. The second part is like after it goes live.
I love this line: "I was thinking we can walk on the water and still find reasons to swim inside"
Its just amazing on so many different levels. even literally its interesting. If you could walk on the water, you still might want to swim. Just because you transcend something doesnt mean you have no need for it. You walk on the water, be a saint but still there are reasons to swim with the fish.
I get the impression that the song is about a Bigger wave knocking someone off their fake pedestal walking above the water...
By the way i did not vote for this song as a favorite OSI song

Vivace said it best. This was the first song I ever heard by Kevin Moore and I was completely AWESTRUCK. I literally sat with my mouth open, just taking in the music and lyrics and magic! The lyric you posted, Vivace, is also my favorite, maybe my favorite lyric of all so far. This has become one of the lesser favorites of mine just because of how far I have gotten into Moore's other stuff, but it is still a BADASS work.

Vivace, You love to analyze songs like me. I understand you logic about walking on water, but still wantingt to swim. Why do you think he says "swim inside"? Inside where? I'm still not totally sure what all this means. Kevin is hard to decipher. And what is the "wave" exactly? Surely, he doesn't mean like a beach wave.

Swim inside the water. inside refers to as opposed to walk on. Walk on or swim inside. Its an interesting question. If you could walk on the water are you telling me you would never want to go for a swim? man i just love that line. Edit: but yea you are right, its a very interesting line and theres certainly a lot going on with it.

OHHH. I thought he meant swim inside, like in an indoor swimming pool, lol. Your explanation makes sense.

i guess this song talks about some1 dealing with a problem and he found a "solution" for the problem... and then realize that he can have a worst problem thanks to that "solution" (now i'm worried there's a bigger wave just behind this one...)
i don't know if u guys get my point... xD
