OK by virtue of being here I can safely say anyone reading this has pretty sophisticated and well developed taste at least as far as Moore/ Moore related material. But I just thought it might be a good idea to have a thread for new albums of other bands you think people on here might like. Its an interesting group of people we have here really that spans a lot of different sounds from chroma key to pull me under...anyways here goes my first review :
Album Title: Seraphic Clockwork
Band: Vanden Plas
genre: structured prog metal
Highlight: check out 5:11 on this link www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rBOVS5AUiE&feature=related#
The band is German but all the songs are in english. They opened for DT in europe i believe a few years ago, so you may already have heard of them.
Pretty solid new album. Fans will tell you all of their albums are great but i disagree and think their previous effort "Christ0" which is a concept album that tells kind of a blade runner version of the count of monte christo was their break through where as previous efforts i found a little tasteless.
This new Seraphic Clockwork album which was released 4 years later is another concept album...the concept this time in my opinion is less cool, in fact i am not sure i even understand it or want to...something about a guy from the future that has to go back in time to overt an apocalypse....at first i was annoyed but after relying on this album to get me through a 20 hour journey half way around the world i realize i dont seem to care that much.
The singer impresses me with both his range and the nuanced decisions he makes throughout. In the highlight i posted at the top of this review he could have easy just gone absolutely nuts at such an epic moment but instead he sort of goes for this understated more rhythmic idea which i just love. All of the musicians though are obviously extremely talented.
The over all sound of the music is quite structured but also interesting odd tempos and amps up the prog. Its got some gentler sides and some heavier sides and as a whole album it works very well.
Bottom line, if you like this style of music this album is just candy and
perfect for an ipod.
i give a
Rating 4.5/5 for surpassing my expectations.
