(Apologies for caps in title, but it's friggin' Godspeed!!!) One of the most influential bands to have been labelled as "post-rock" (whatever that means) played their first show in seven years last night at ATP in the UK. I wasn't there, but I will be seeing them on Tuesday in Manchester. Godspeed are one of my all-time favourite bands, and my favourite instrumental band. I gotta say, I'm pretty excited!!! If anybody's interested, here is Efrim discussing the early days of the band: drownedinsound.com/in_depth/4141662-atp-preview--plan-b-mag-meets-godspeed-you-black-emperorAnybody else going to see them on their tour?

if they played in Minnesota, I would go. Skinny Fists is somewhat of a classic. Kind of a modern Topographic Oceans of sorts.

Live performance of Moya from this weekend's ATP:
The first song they performed after their seven years of hiatur: Storm.
The setlists I've seen suggest they are playing new material, and not just Albanian and Gamelan (two tracks they played in 2003 but never released), as I understand.

Got back from the gig approximately half an hour ago. I almost skipped it because I've had a really nasty fever the past couple of days. I drugged myself up on paracetamol before I headed out though, and survived, though I was in a trance-like state for most of the show as a result of the drugs/illness.
But otherwise, what a show. Incredible. I might elaborate a bit more later (when it's not quarter past midnight), but suffice to say, I was blown away.
