I've given this a few spins now... it's definitely a grower. It's taking some time to adjust to Opeth no longer playing metal.
Anybody else checked this out?

I'm listening to it now. I just watched the special-edition documentary too, which was kinda boring haha. I'm not a big Opeth fan. I basically started buying there stuff in 2009 after Mikael appeared on OSI's Blood. He spent a decent portion of the DVD talking about how he wants to move on from the band's past sound of growls and heaviness and that it should be OK for the band to do that, almost like he's trying to convince himself that it's OK. It was interesting to watch.
I only listened to the album once, so it's too soon to comment. What did you think?

Most of the fanbase seem furious that a metal band has released an album that isn't metal in the slightest. I'm not sure why.
I'm still finding my way around the album, but what I've heard so far is really good. Really different. Very proggy and jazzy, but also quite atmospheric.

It took me a week or so to get into this one but I really like it now.
