I've had this "The Incident" album for a while, but really focused on Disc 1. I listened to disc like twice. Last night I put it on again and listened like 10 times. What a great CD. "Remember me Live" is awesome. Wow.

Holy smokes! Nice stuff there. I might rob you. Don't give me your address. To be honest, the last show I've been to is the QR/DT/FW show at Jones Beach in 2003. I don't really know people that are into prog metal, so I usually have to beg someone to go. But a good friend I made through my ex is a big concertgoer and metal fan, so hopefully that problem is solved.
You didn't like FoaBP? I thought it was pretty solid. I actually have a FoaBP poster in my cubicle lol. My cubicle is like a shrine to prog metal. I have a 12x12 promo posters for DT's Awake SFAM, and Systematic Chaos albums. I also have a Queensryche Mindcrime and a Rush Vapor Trails 12x12 poster. Under the glass top on my desk are dozens of color printouts of album covers ranging from OSI to Chroma Key to PT to DT.

But a good friend I made through my ex is a big concertgoer and metal fan, so hopefully that problem is solved. I usually go to about 30 - 40 shows a year, so I'll keep you mind for any local prog metal shows I'm going to. I often have trouble finding people to go with, but I've just started going alone. I've decided its not worth missing a good show just because i don't have anybody to go with. Plus, especially with the prog metal stuff, it tends to very often be the same groups of people going to the same shows, so I've kind of started just getting to know people through seeing them at the same shows again and again. So far on tap for this year I've got "Hail!" at BB King's in 2 weeks, Umphrey's McGee at Nokia next month, and 2 Transatlantic shows in April. I love those 12 x 12 album flats. I've got a set of DT ones above my computer desk at home:

I'm speechless. This is heaven. You are also very neat and a symmetrical person. I'm like that too. Don't give me your address. I might rob you. I'm kidding. But not really.
In my living room, I have a 36x24 poster of Queensryche's Promised Land cover, the rare DT-SFAM poster, a Fates Warning Parallels poster and a Chroma Key DAFR promo poster - all framed. I also have my DT 1985 yearbook on a pedestal. Of course, no one that sees it gives a shit besides me, lol.

You should post some pics. I always like seeing other people's setups. I actually have a whole closet full of DT posters, but not nearly enough wall space for them, so I can never decide which ones I want to actually put up.

I'd like to resurrect this thread and start some discussion on Porcupine Tree (hereafter simply PT). Which PT albums do you like best? Initially I bought In Absentia on a whim after hearing Steven in OSI. I didn't like it. I burned a copy for my friend and he loved it. He bough Deadwing and burned me a copy. Finally I ended up with Fear of a Blank Planet and feel head over heels. My friend gave me a copy of Lightbulb Sun which I really loved, so then I back tracked to Absentia and Deadwing and started digging them. Fast foward to Incident which is a MONUMENTAL album plus working backwards with Signify (hasn't quite been a hit yet but it's growing on me).
I'd have to say now Deadwing is a masterful album, up there with Lightbulb and Incident as my faves. What about y'all?

iv had a pretty weird experience with these guys. Back in 06 i was desperate for more prog and searching itunes came up with these like prog metal mixed lists that people made. Like "prog metal 1" "introducing prog metal"...PT typically showed up and for some reason i decided to give them a try. Everyone seemed to think In Absentia was their best but Deadwing had just come out and there was some debate about it so i just got both of them.
I found myself not too thrilled with it. I kind of liked the Trains song and so id play that once in a while and let it go through the bunch of other PT tracks i had sitting there. It kind of grew on me i guess, enough so that i got Fear of a Blank Planet when it came out which i quickly grew tired of.
Then in 2007 i moved to california and started listening to in Absentia more and all of a sudden it was like WHOA i totally LOVE THIS!! So i got a bunch of their other older stuff and also the BlackField stuff and also Wilsons solo album Harmony all of which i was totally digging for a couple of months at least.
Then all of a sudden it was like blahhhh --it gave me an acute nausea. I simply couldnt listen to anything with Wilsons voice any more! I guess i ODed on it pretty bad. That was a few years ago...
now i find i can listen to only 'Stupid Dream' and only every once in a while. So i guess id have to say that its my favorite for whatever thats worth...
its amazing that this hasnt happened to me with Kevins music.

The first Porcupine Tree album I listened to was Fear of a Blank Planet. It didn't blow me away. A couple of months later I listened to In Absentia. THAT blew me away completely. I think it remains my favourite album, although I also really enjoy Lightbulb Sun, Fear of a Blank Planet and Deadwing.
I've been checking out Steven Wilson's other projects, too. Porcupine Tree is definitely his most well-known and probably also his most lucrative (relatively speaking, of course), but it represents a minority of his work. I've sampled most of his projects (all apart from No-Man and IEM), but I'd have to say that along with Porcupine Tree, Bass Communion and Insurgentes are well worth checking out. In Absentia blew me away with the really strong songwriting, but Insurgentes blew me away with how "out there" it felt, and Molotov and Haze (my favourite Bass Communion album) is simply beautiful.

I first got into PT when Jim Matheos posted how much he liked 'Lightbulb Sun' on the Fates Warning web-board. That was about the only time he posted I think. I picked it up and I really dug it, I liked In Absentia even more. That's my favorite by them. For some reason I didn't get into the previous or following albums as much, I liked them but didn't love them. I really enjoyed both Blackfield albums. ETA: I did a few PT covers back in the day. There are a couple on my music page: www.reverbnation.com/greggirardin

I really enjoyed both Blackfield albums. Oh yes, those are great albums. I rented the live Blackfield DVD from Netflix, it's pretty sweet. I have Insurgentes, it's alright but hasn't really done it for me. I keep thinking about buying some No-Man, but have ruled out Bass Communication as being a bit too out there for my tastes. I can't WAIT to hear his project with what's his name (Mike Akerfelt?) from Opeth!

Those are some really sweet covers!! Off-topic, but those Chroma Key covers are also awesome! I love what you've done with Undertow. justabaldguy - Insurgentes took a lot of time before I really started enjoying it... tracks like Abandoner didn't really click with me until after a good number of listens. I got the DVD of the Insurgentes movie Steve Wilson did with Lasse Hoile. It's very good, although a tad on the short side (73 minutes or something). There's tonnes of bonus DVD goodness on there. Earlier this evening I watched the live performance of Steven Wilson (as Bass Communion) with Pig in Mexico City... it makes everything else he's worked on seem really tame and normal!! Steve Wilson's confirmed he should have three albums out in 2011: a third Blackfield album, a second solo album (this time a double CD + possible tour) and his project with Mikael Akerfeldt. A 20-minute No-Man track whose title I forget may be getting released next year, probably as an EP (but maybe a full album if Steve has the time to write new music!) I'm hoping he releases some new Bass Communion in the next couple of years too - I love that stuff!

Love Porcupine Tree, though I don't have many of their albums. In Absentia is probably my favorite, and hoping to get a few more for Christmas or something.
I just ordered the Insurgentes DVD yesterday so I'm very excited to see that. The few clips on YouTube have been great.
