OK, I've never listened to Redemption before, but I just listened to them a bit and I like it. I love Ray Alder. What's the best CD?

Well actually my fave was their first self titled one they did before Ray. Of course I love Ray but hey that was a good album, my next fave is probably the Origins of Ruin. I found the most recent one Snowfall on Judgment Day to be pretty disappointing and pretty much recycled stuff...i think they did it too soon after the Origins of Ruin.

I am going nutty over Redemption the last few days. I'm obsessed. How did I not know this band existed? The music is so good. Ray sounds great. It's heavy and melodic and emotional. "Life In One Day" is a breathtaking epic. And the lyrics are wonderful.

"Life In One Day" is a breathtaking epic. And the lyrics are wonderful. Yea thats how i felt when i discovered them . The main issue with Snowfall wasnt that it was bad but it wasnt really new either, it was kind of a combination of the first album and origins of ruin, and i was kind of hoping for something else. I think my favorite track from snowfall is Laviathan Rising --really quite interesting song...hmmm think i will listen to it now. EDIT: actually ithink it was fistfull of sand not Laviathan i was thinking of...

I'm still hooked on Redemption and I read a lot about the band's creator: Nick van Dyk. His story is amazing. He is a middle-aged guy and a lifelong Fates Warning fan. He ran into Ray Alder at a concert in the late 1990s and introduced himself and left it at that. A few weeks later, he ran into Ray at another concert and they talked more. Ray invited him to a Fates rehearsal and they ended up staying friends and keeping in touch. Eventually, he mentioned to Ray that he writes music and shared it with Ray. Ray loved it and ended up offering to produce the first album and they eventually asked to sing. Wow. Talk about a great story.

yea its funny. He was keeping his day job too, I think he is an exec at Disney, so for many of the shows he was unable to be there and they had to get a sub...

Redemption is working on a fifth album and posted this on their MySpace today: Hello folks, and sorry for the long silence from us. It's been a very busy summer for us away from Redemption, particularly for Ray who as most of you surely know did a reunion tour with the Parallels lineup of Fates Warning to commemorate the 20th anniversary of that fantastic release. I (Nick) remain in complete remission with no trace of the disease that I announced publicly about a year ago. I remain on three powerful medications to ensure that the cancer does not return. Of the five original active lesions in my bones, none are active for cancer and one of them has resolved (i.e. been completely repaired with new bone). The other four are in the process of being repaired and that is the next big milestone. Patience is required but I believe they will get there. If that happens, it is a good sign that I am well down the road to being cured (according to the very aggressive doctor to whom I entrust my care). However I must remain on these medicines for two more years. They have many unpleasant side effects but I am resolved to stick with the program and beat "incurable" blood cancer. Thank you all very much for your prayers, positive vibes and words of support -- they mean a lot. And so life continues, and with it, a new Redemption CD in the works! We are in the early pre-production stages at this point, still composing and arranging. It's too early to say too much, but I can share that the arrangements vary from short (for us!) hard-hitting songs to at least one and possibly two more sprawling ideas, and that a few of the working titles at this point are Noonday Devil, Dreams from the Pit and Rain in my Soul. We'll have more to post in the coming weeks and months, and hopefully some great new music for you in 2011! As always, thank you for your support and interest! Best, Nick Read more: blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=56244027&blogId=539373224&actp=n%2b0prKAebczfG13CmB%2fL170xxzjSK8k%2f19igSi%2f1c3uQLTXTYANJMky0qJd%2b9I2k3QAtm9wu%2bdeAQesGApo8FW1Oef8UN35vlKmqioQXGqjRh8Qg%2bC%2fl80XiSt%2bkG6H9f6R80I4ynpXJGLi5U2p0qgPUTV64R%2fwYjyfayQxBMgGF1kz7eTJT7p2FAQ1UHFziHXC509mQnFTvW4ZYPghhpO3ZWgEr8VOv%2bBxxJOQLko7QcN8yn6%2fCnHFM%2bJI2DZYj#ixzz10O2yHX2i

I'm really loving Redemption. I haven't put away their CDs since I got into them two months ago. The Snowfall on Judgment Day CD grabbed me immediately. The Origins of Ruin took me a little bit, but I actually think I like it just as much. I can hear the Fates Warning influences. Nick is a great songwriter and I love his use of keyboards. It's the perfect amount of keyboard that I like in my prog metal. And his lyrics are just beautiful. Even the album artwork grabs me. Everything about this band just clicks with me.

Mike, are you still listening to Redemption? After a few months, how are they sounding to you? I'm thinking about jumping in and picking up something soon, likely The Fullness of Time. I'm curious to hear your thoughts first.

Oh, man. I love Redemption and highly recommend them. Most people love the Fullness of Time the most, but I would start with Snowfall on Judement Day. It's their newest album and the keyboards are more prominent and beautiful than the previous two albums. As a Kevin fan, I love keyboards. The music is very emotional, yet uplifting. I'm so happy to have finally gotten into them.

Mebert--have you given the first album a try yet?
Baldguy-- the first one(self titled) is still my favorite even though it has a different singer.
fullness of time is actually my least favorite even though yea most people love it. Origins of Ruin is my favorite with Ray and i think he did an amazing job on it.

I did buy the first one. I only listened to it a couple times though. I really like Ray's voice, so I wasn't mentally into the first disc with the different vocalist. I'll try again soon. I really liked Origins of Ruin as well. I personally think each CD is a little better than the previous one. But you can't go wrong with any of them, if you ask me.

Hey Mebert I really like Redemption, but a lot of times I have trouble getting passed the lyrics. They are great, but it just kind of wears me down sometimes. Can you recommend any great songs by them that are a little more happy? or at least neutral?

About the only song I've found is "The Death of Faith and Reason" but it's more of an angry, church-burning song hahaha
